Michelle Obama Goes on Vegan Cleanses

Michelle Obama does regular vegan cleanses! Who knew? In the September edition of the Ladies' Home Journal Michelle Obama reported that she does the occasional dietary cleanse by increasing her vegetables, and cutting out meats, fats, dairy, caffeine, and sugar during her cleanses.

Cleansing normally involves a very low calorie quasi-fast during which natural laxatives are sometimes ingested. Cleanses follow the principle that as you put less stress on your digestive system by eating light, you are able to excrete toxins from your body. Some more drastic cleanses can lead to "detox", such as the long-popular Master Cleanse, for instance, involves consuming nothing but a concoction of fresh lemon (or lime) juice, real maple syrup, cayenne pepper and water for 10 days or more; followers also take laxatives twice a day.

The best cleanse is gentle and all natural: Eat plenty of fiber, found in fruits, vegetables and whole grains!
